Sono tornato. A dir la verita’ son tornato una settimana fa’ . Ma tra il fare sorprese ai genitori, riprendersi un attimo e riveder gli amici non ho avuto voglia di scriver niente qui.

I came back home. To tell you the truth i came back a week ago I was busy surprising my parents, start again my old life and visit my friends, so i didn’t want to write here.

E’ stata una bellissima esperienza, ho visto un sacco di posti, ma soprattutto conosciuto tante belle persone. Ora e’ il momento di fermarsi un po’. E di fare tante cene … non ho voglia di scrivere ancora, ma di raccontare si’

Arrivo da un paio di giornate di relax passate a Wortley, vicino Sheffield. Paesino minuscolo, in mezzo al verde ed al silenzio…riscaldamento dell’hotel a parte.

I’m coming from a couple of relaxing days spent in Wortley, close to Sheffield. Small village, in the middle of green fields and silence…except for the heating of the hotel.

E prima di Wortley son stato di nuovo a Manchester. Devo ammettere di averla rivalutata. Ho visto nuove parti della citta’ che son proprio belline. Ho avuto buona compagnia. E poi nella curry-mile si mangia proprio bene, se vi piace il curry ovviamente!

And before Wortley i was again in Manchester. I must admit i appreciated it much more this time. I saw new parts of the city that are very nice. I had good company. And along the curry-mile you can eat really well, if you like curry of course!

Guess who i’ve met just by chance along the streets of Dublin!

L’irlanda m’e’ piaciuta, i paesaggi son molto belli sia all’interno che lungo le coste, la musica e’ eccezionale, la gente ospitale, la birra molto buona! Ma non posso dire di esserne rimasto stregato come sembra accadere a molte persone che ho conosciuto. Quindi oggi me ne torno felicemente in Inghilterra, a trovare vecchi amici, ed incontrarne di nuovi.

I liked Ireland, landscapes are beautiful both inland and along the coasts, music is wonderful, people are friendly, beer is great! But i can’t say i was stupefied by it as it seems it happened to lots of people i’ve met. So today i’ll go back to England, to visit old friends and meet new ones.

Spiegazione: potreste ritrovarvi a pagare il taxi pre raggiungere un club sperduto nel culo della citta’ e non entrare neanche, perche’ sembra di essere nel film “Hostel” anziche’ in una bella serata in una capitale europea. E ritrovarsi a camminare verso il centro citta’ sotto la pioggia insistente dell’irlanda.

Explanation: you could find yourselves paying for a taxi to a strange club lost in the ass of the city and without even entering it, ’cause you seems to be in the movie “Hostel” instead of a nice night in a european capital. And finish the night walking back to the city center under the incessant irish rain.

Yes, i did it again. I was in Limerick (nothing special as a city, but there’s a nice student life) trying to find an open wireless connection to look for an answer from some couchsurfers. I stop on a sidewalk ’cause there had been a car accident. After a short while a guy stop close to me to ask me what happened, we start chatting, i tell him about couchsurf and that i was looking for a “couch”. After less than 10 minutes he tells me, well, why don’t you come at my place tonight? i immediately reply to him: sure!

E’ una casa per studenti, ci sono lui (irlandese), una ragazza irlandese, una ragazza francese, un francese, ed un’italiana. No, non e’ una barzelletta E’ stato bello parlare di nuovo in italiano, e la serata e’ stata piu’ che interessante. Son stati tutti molto gentili e fra poco ci saranno 4 couchsurfer in piu’

It is a students house, there is him (an irish), an irish girl, a french girl, a french guy, and an italian girl. No, it’s not a joke It was nice to talk again in italian, and the evening was very interesting. All of them were nice and hospitable and soon enough there will be 4 more couchsurfers

E visto che il lunedi’, cioe’ il giorno dopo, iniziava la rag week, una settimana dedicata alla beneficenza, ma in realta’ una scusa per festeggiare fra gli studenti, mi han detto, no dai rimani! non puoi perderti la rag week! Ok! grazie e via con un altra serata memorabile!

Since on monday, the next day, started the rag week, a week dedicated to charity, but in reality an excuse for students to organize parties, they told me: you should stay! you can’t miss the rag week! Ok! Thanks and here it comes again a great night!

Al momento sono a Dublino, appena arrivato dopo esser passato a Kilkenny. Kilkenny e’ un paese carino, piccolo e tranquillamente girabile a piedi, peccato che quasi tutto fosse chiuso dato che non e’ stagione turistica ed anche la distilleria, nonostante sia il 300esimo anniversario e’ aperta solo un paio di mesi durrante l’estate.

At the moment i’m in Dublin, just arrived after visiting Kilkenny. Kilkenny is a nice town, small and easily visiting by feet, the only problem was that almost everything was closed since we’re not in the touristic season. And the distillery too, even tho it’s his 300th anniversary, is open only two months during summer.

Pero’ le serate son divertenti. Son stato ad una serata “open mic”. Piccole band o solisti che si alternavano sul palco e han suonato un po’ di tutto. Tutti davvero molto bravi! L’unica pecca: niente musica irlandese

But they have nice nights in Kilkenny. I’ve been in an open mic night. Small bands, or soloists were playing a bit of everything on the stage. Everyone was very good! The only downside? No irish music

Veloce aggiornamento da un pub in Galway. Sono in Irlanda! San patrizio e’ stato carino, ma niente di eccezionale, ero in una citta’ chiamata Sligo, che sinceramente non mi e’ piaciuta. Favolose le scogliere dei giganti, divertenti i venerdi’ sera in galway: bella muscia, bella gente (3 crucchi, 2 americani, un paio di irlandesi veri, un francese, 4 portoghesi + tutti gli altri che non ho conosciuto ). Oggi si va verso sud: Limerick. ciao ciao

Quick update from a pub in Galway. I’m in Ireland! Paddy’s day has been nice, but not exceptional, i was in a city called Sligo, and to tell the truth, i didn’t like it. Giant’s causeway is wonderful, funny the friday night in galway: good music, happy people (3 germans, 2 americans, a couple of true irish, a french, 4 portuguese + everyone else i didn’t met ). Today i’ll go to Limerik. ciao ciao

Le isole Orkney sono spoglie, nessun albero in vista, ma a parte questo son molto belle. E fredde In questi giorni ha nevicato quasi ogni giorno, e gelato di notte. Mare e neve, una bella accoppiata Nonostante siano piccole, hanno molto da offrire. da tombe di circa 5000 anni fa, pietre in piedi, brutta traduzione di “standing stones”, un gruppo di pietre sparse qua’ e la’ nella parte sud dell’isola principale (stenness), la chiesta italiana costruita da prigionieri di guerra italiani nel ’43. Oltre alla parte storica, c’e’ la parte attuale (ma va’?!?) ci sono molti pub, dove e’ bello entrare e sentirsi subito in “famiglia”. L’accoglienza scozzese e’ davvero calorosa! E musica folk dal vivo (questa la potete trovare ovunque in Scozia!), se capitate a Kirkwall il fine settimana, andate al cafe’ “the reel” di sabato sera, sarete piacevolmente sorpresi da un gruppo di musicisti che si riunisce gratuitamente per suonare in compagnia.

Sea and snow, a nice mix Even tho they are small, they can offer a lot. From 5000 years old tombs, standing stones (a group of stones spread in the south part of the main land (stenness)), an italian chapel build by italian war prisoners in the ’43. Beyond the historical part, there’s the nowadays part (seriously?!) there are lots of pubs, where it’s nice to go in and feel “at home”. Scottish welcome is lovely and warm! And live folk music (you can find it everywhere in Scotland!), if you happen to be in Kirkwall during the weekend, go to “the reel” cafe’ on a saturday night, you’ll be surprised by a group of musician who gather together freely to play some good music.
