dice all'incirca: "attenzione voi con la macchina, non lasciate oggetti preziosi in macchina"

dice all'incirca: "attenzione voi con la macchina, non lasciate oggetti preziosi in macchina"

It’s not only that obviously, there is a lot more than that, but i could find this overwhelming and oppressive presence everywhere since i landed here.

Lets see why:

Voyer: there are lots of cams everywhere, outdoors, indoors, public transports, private parks, public parks. There are lots of “neighbourhood watching area” signs. Do the people here mind their own business or not?

Nanny: as the sign in the picture, there are lots of similar “advertisement”, from tv ads thet tell you to lock the door and not to leave precious things visible from the window, to warnings on the bus not to leave luggage there, to warnings to control your wallet, warnings about slippery steps, “attention ice”, do not run on the stairs etc. etc. Do people really need those signs?(well, about the slippery surface, and not to run seems that some people do need them :P )

>Cop: again the sings about the watching neighbourhood, cctv area, unguarded luggage will be controlled by the police and eventually blown up (i’m not joking), call the police or the appropriate authorities if you see suspicious behaviour

What i though is that in this country there are a lot of thieves and terrorists and a lot of stupid people, and not to trust your neighbour ’cause i’m watching you, you know i can see you, yes wave your hand, you’re on tv!

Jokes aside, this is something that you can’t not see, is bothersome and intrusive on my opinion, and make people not to trust each other. Unfortunately i couldn’t ask a big enough sample of english people to understand if they are really so stupid or not. Till now it doesn’t seems so, but i can’t be sure.

dal bagno

Alternative Christmas, spent in Bath in a student house that seemed to be an old house for rich people rented to students.

The most amazing thing in that house is the attic. Sit down on the bowl and look outside the window in the morning will put you in a happy mood. There’s a wonderful view, and if it’s not raining (it’s happening a lot lately, having a clear sky i mean) you can admire half Bath and one of the surrounding hills.

Alternative Christmas, spent in laziness with a morning walk around the city, cooking pancakes without milk and with different forms, doing an interview about couchsurfing for a school project, interview framed by smoking shisha and a friendly chat, playing around at home with music and movies, and cooking again, but chinese style with chopstick and belgian beer to celebrate :P

In the end a very alternative Christmas!

Augurissimi!

I am in Bath at the moment, and here i’ll celebrate Christmas with a couple of students and eventually some other friends.
Bath is a very nice city, small, surrounded by hills, covered in snow at the moment, with suggestive panoramas. Lots of places where you can go for a walk through a wood or on a typical english meadow :)
From Bath i wish you all a Merry Christmas! Stuff yourselves, have fun and stay well!!

England?

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

I’ve jsut arrived, i saw only the cathedral and the center of Canterbury by night, and i reach the conclusion that i’ll spend a lot of time here in UK! :D

Brugge?

Saturday, December 12th, 2009

Nice city, but i prefer Gent, there is a nicer atmosphere and less tourists. But one can have fun here in Brugge also, maybe too much fun, with porto, tequila, and local students. The only problem is the day after, instead of going to England, i went to bed :P

Amsterdam!

Auguri!

Festa!!!

If you’re in Amsterdam, and you have half a day free, you can go north in a small village called Monnickendam. Very nice, and very small, and you can visit it in just half a day :)

In Amsterdam, being still alive ’cause i could avoid all the mad cyclists, i could celebrate my birthday! Hurray! To be precise i was in Almere, near Amsterdam, but it doesn’t matter. A nice evening with a couchsurer from originally from indonesia, a great mom, a friendly and nice person. It was an evening of chatter, of laughing, of cooking. Thanks to Maria we discovered that risotto with apples go really well with an indonesian like salad made with brussels sprouts, tuna, garlic and soya sauce. A good mix!

After saying goodbye with Maria, i’ve waited the arrival of Samu and Giulia. It was great to see them again after so long time. We had fun visiting the city, drinking beer, eating in the worst places (worst than MacDonald also), but the most funny evening was the last one. A couchsurfing meeting with more than 60 people. The event was the Sinterklaas party, or San Niccolo’ holiday, and someone rediscovered the same traditions at lots of kilometers away from home in north/east Italy, someone else rediscovered the lost “english” language :D Lots of different peoples, lots of beer, but above everything there was a great will of being together, to have fun and to party. A great evening and night. It was a pity to have to wake up early the next morning, but it was worth the price ;)

Now i’m near Brussels, at Antwerp, very nice city, with the best and biggest train station i’ve seen till now: a nice mix of old and new, perfectly mixed together!

Pausa

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

Since i left Norway i didn’t write much, i traveled fast, let’s say it has been an interval. I was hoping to rest for a bit here in Amsterdam and now i’m doing it forcibly, because i got cold and cough. But at least i’ve got my voice back ;)

From Narvik, Norway, the following steps were: Lulea, Stockholm, Malmo, Copenhagen, Amsterdam. Stockholm is a beautiful city, born on islands, it offer nice landscapes during the day and the night. Copenhagen too. Nice city, full of young blood, interesting and lively persons. Two things got my attention: the little mermaid is not so beautiful as they tell, although she has nice little tits, but Christiania is a very particular district, really alternative and hippie. And if you are going to Copenhagen i’ll challenge you to find the sister of the little mermaid. Try to ask around, maybe someone as seen her ;)

From Copenhagen i wanted to reach Amsterdam by hitchhiking. Apparently it wasn’t the right decision, ’cause after leaving the house at 7 in the morning, at 2 pm i was still in the outskirt of the city. I would have been much more far if i had walked all the time. I had it up of waiting, so i went back to the city center and took the first bus to Amsterdam. The most uncomfortable bus i’ve ever taken, we had to wake up at 2:30 am to get in the ferry, at 5 to change the bus in Amsterdam, at 10 for the police control (4 people got arrested for whatever reason), at 1:30 pm i finally arrive in Amsterdam.

Imagine Venice (if you’ve been there), put it in some high tourists, some sex wondering tourists, people who just want to have fun and simple tourists and obviously all the material required to satisfy them all. In a simple view this is Amsterdam. As in Venice, it’s nice just to walk in the streets and paths and look at the not really straight houses that are not straight for a useful reason, lots of boats, ciclists everywhere (pay attention to them…they won’t stop for a simple pedestrian), some churches, some windows with prostitutes for every taste, and coffeeshops, you can recognize them from a distance thanks to their particular scent. The idea this city gave to me is of a crazy and lively Venice :)

At the moment i’m the guest of a couchsurfer. I’ve spent the first night in Amsterdam in a hotel, but the room was already booked for the next nights (it’s hard to find a place in this city during the weekends), so i went out to search for another place. With hostels that ask 38 euro for bed in a 20 bed room, i was almost thinking to spend the night in a pub drinking beer…it would have been more cheap and much more pleasant. But i had the luck to meet a group of people that were going to sing some mantras, i joined them aout of curiosity and at 4 am more or less they let me stay at their place, a refreshing and interesting night :)
The next day was a walk day. I followed the free tour in the city, it’s something i recommend to everyone who’s in a capital city and has 3 or 4 hours to spend, and the night a great couchsurfing meeting and a lot of beer! It was at the meeting that i have met my actual host. Next saturday there will be the reply, but with christmas presents as a plus!!

I wish you all a nice day :)
