Kyleakin visto dall'altra sponda
A name that makes you cold (“actually it doesn’t makes sense in english, the joke is that “inverno” in italian means winter, so inverno/inverness…ok i’ll stop here). Nessie is close by, but i couldn’t see her…if she doesn’t like cat’s food, next time i’ll give her risotto, maybe she has sophisticated taste.
Monsters aside, Scotland is really beautiful, and the Highlands are gorgeous, and the views along the coast remember me of Norway. I’ve stopped for a couple of days in Kyleakin, a small maritime village on the Skye island, on the point close to the mainland. It is not a touristic season, and so there were no tourists the first day (except me). Only a group of americans with an organized tour stopped there for a night. In the hostel where i was sleeping i was the only customer. And because of that the village was much more beautiful. Only Seagulls and small birds to keep me company.
Today i’m going to Ullapool, funny name, they told me it’s nice, but i don’t know anything about it. And i’ll stop till Monday morning, but only because there are no buses on Sunday :/

Lately this trip is having a strange but pleasant turn. Lots of smiles, last minute decisions, snow, fabulous comfy beds, many steps one after the other. Beautiful!

Scottish people, at least till now, have a peculiar accent, piratish in a way, that makes them hard to be understood (at least by me), but also very funny to listen to
Question: how do you say yes in scottish?
Answer: “Aye”

Relaxing morning drinking ginger tea before going to Glasgow.
Ayr is a maritime town, quiet at the moment, but probably full of turists and people on the beach during summer. Nice parks and the coastline, but there’s not much else to see, unless you have a bike or a car and you can drive in the nearby villages.

E' bello incontrare gente divertente
I know, i’ve been lazy lately with this blog. And i think it won’t change in the near future. I’m enjoying this trip, i’m having fun, i’ve met lots of intereting people, and although i have a lot of spare time and a lot of things to write, i just don’t have the will…just that
I’ll tell you about my last stop tho: Keswick, in the heart of Lake District.
The town is small, but nice and old fashioned, as most of the town in this part of England. But the whole area of Lake District is gorgeous. Beautiful mountains, not too high, nice walks, nice lakes, breathtaking panoramas. And stone circles, like this one they make the area a bit more particular
And if, when you stop a little while between the rocks, you meet a friendly english couple that offers you hospitality for your next destination, you feel happy. And if the evening you go out alone for a beer, and you find yourself surrounded by crazy but amusing people (see the picture) … well, that’s the perfect day
ciau!

Remi's snowman
Let’s jump over new year’s eve, ’cause there’s nothing particular to tell, and go straight to Llandrindod Wells. I’ve been there for 4 days, one more than planned, because i couldn’t find/decide the next stop and ’cause i were snowed in. The next day the roads weren’t better, of course, but at least there was a marvellous bright sky!
The Welsh mountains are really gorgeous. They surely are nice also in summer, but during the winter, seeing all that white, with some green spots here and there, and being surrounded by silence, except for some bleating, is something wonderful. And you can also randomly meet some semi/wild horses like those two:

ma ciao cavallini!
The only inconvenient is having to walk for 3 miles (more or less 5 km) to reach the village to buy some food supplies. Hoping not to slide and fall thanks to the ice buried and hidden by the snow. But you can have fun building snowmen along the path to amuse yourself

spero non piova troppo nei prossimi giorni!
A quick update, since i’m hungry, and since i don’t have an internet connection at the b&b where i’m sleeping in these days
My shoes are broken, as you can see in the picture. I’ve had great walks on the snow, having close encounters of the third kind with some wild(?) horses (i needed to give them the way, otherwise they wouldn’t continue their travel). I’ve spent new year’s eve in the laziest way walking between the fireworks and drunken people sleeping with their t-shirts on the frozen sidewalk. I’ve learned a couple of new card games. Now i’m going to eat! Enjoy your meal!

dice all'incirca: "attenzione voi con la macchina, non lasciate oggetti preziosi in macchina"
It’s not only that obviously, there is a lot more than that, but i could find this overwhelming and oppressive presence everywhere since i landed here.
Lets see why:
Voyer: there are lots of cams everywhere, outdoors, indoors, public transports, private parks, public parks. There are lots of “neighbourhood watching area” signs. Do the people here mind their own business or not?
Nanny: as the sign in the picture, there are lots of similar “advertisement”, from tv ads thet tell you to lock the door and not to leave precious things visible from the window, to warnings on the bus not to leave luggage there, to warnings to control your wallet, warnings about slippery steps, “attention ice”, do not run on the stairs etc. etc. Do people really need those signs?(well, about the slippery surface, and not to run seems that some people do need them
)
>Cop: again the sings about the watching neighbourhood, cctv area, unguarded luggage will be controlled by the police and eventually blown up (i’m not joking), call the police or the appropriate authorities if you see suspicious behaviour
What i though is that in this country there are a lot of thieves and terrorists and a lot of stupid people, and not to trust your neighbour ’cause i’m watching you, you know i can see you, yes wave your hand, you’re on tv!
Jokes aside, this is something that you can’t not see, is bothersome and intrusive on my opinion, and make people not to trust each other. Unfortunately i couldn’t ask a big enough sample of english people to understand if they are really so stupid or not. Till now it doesn’t seems so, but i can’t be sure.

dal bagno
Alternative Christmas, spent in Bath in a student house that seemed to be an old house for rich people rented to students.
The most amazing thing in that house is the attic. Sit down on the bowl and look outside the window in the morning will put you in a happy mood. There’s a wonderful view, and if it’s not raining (it’s happening a lot lately, having a clear sky i mean) you can admire half Bath and one of the surrounding hills.
Alternative Christmas, spent in laziness with a morning walk around the city, cooking pancakes without milk and with different forms, doing an interview about couchsurfing for a school project, interview framed by smoking shisha and a friendly chat, playing around at home with music and movies, and cooking again, but chinese style with chopstick and belgian beer to celebrate
In the end a very alternative Christmas!
